Ilgakasė' is the title of long hair contests in Lithuania. This annual competition takes place in the cultural centre of Elektrenai, a small village not far from the capital Vilnius.
This year, the stage of Elektrenai's tiny community theatre was filled with 17 young girls who proudly presented their waist- to calf-length hair.
At the 'Lithuania's Got Talent' part, the participants showed off their skills, e.g. singing, dancing, presenting their homemade artwork and playing an instrument. The next part was traditionally the hair measurement. During the time when the jury was deciding who would be Miss Ilgakasė 2015, we were all entertained by some surpringly good singers.
It was quite clear that 10-year-old Andrea, who also took part in the Ilgaplaukės competitions in Vilnius and Kaunas, was the winner in the longest hair category with her stunning golden, calf-length hair. But other girls also received prizes for their performance, for the thickness of their hair and their appearance in general. Everyone returned home satisfied and looking forward to next year's competition, which is one of the few certainties in life.
