The tradition of searching for Lithuania's longest hair continues in the Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas on the last day of the beauty fair: "Moters pasaulis" (eng. woman's world).
This year, 133 girls, aged 2 till 36 years old were about to walk down the catwalk, show off their lengthy manes and get it measured. The organization literally had their hands full of hair this day and with so many contestants, it was bound to be an official Lithuanian record. Never before so many long haired girls joined one single event. Their hair was simply astonishing, as many of them has grown their hair below their knees, even the little ones.

Apart from the hair measuring, there was a variety of other entertainment. Dancing, modelling the latest winter fashion, and a hair styling show. Practically never a dull moment.
All girls wore dresses made of linen, a beautiful and versatile fabric, which was more or less the dresscode. At this contest it looks like long hair is back into fashion again, but on the streets it's still an extreme rare sight! The organization did a great job, bringing all those proud long haired girls from all over Lithuania together to show that there is much hope for the future. Winners were there in each age category, whose hair lengths beat the records of last year, but the true winner was a 12 year old girl with a spectacular hair length of 1,40m! An article about this in Lithuanian can be found on the website www.modeliai.lt

WM2016 thumbWarkocz Magdaleny is an annual festival organized at the end of July in the courtyard of a Jesuit church. It is located in the centre of Poznań, a nice tourist friendly town in the western part of Poland.

Main activities are the competition of the longest braid, the organ pipe blowing contest, brass bands and other entertainment for the whole family.

The contest "Warkocz Magdaleny", named after Maria Magdaleny who wore her hair in long braids (warkocz) is for girls and women of all ages. The most interesting part is when they get their hair done for the competition. Some of them have hair reaching down to the floor and it's getting longer every year!

UBLB2016 thumbThe 'Ural beauty - long braid' competition, or in Russian: 'Уральская краса - длинная коса' is an annual long hair show held in shopping mall Alatir, Ekaterinburg on 12 June, the Day of Russia. An excellent day to show the world that wearing long hair is still Russia's symbol of feminine beauty despite the more comfortable short hair styles.

LHD2016 thumb The 'Contest of the Longest Hair in Dnepropetrovsk' (or in Russian: 'Конкурс на самые длинные волосы Днепропетровск') is the significant title for the contests of the longest hair in Dnepropetrovsk. An annual contest which is held for the fourth time in this lovely city. My visit to 'long hair heaven' Ukraine was a welcoming change to the regular competitions in Ekaterinburg and Poznań. The contest was, like many others, held in a Soviet-like shopping centre, usually a place where locals come to stare at the showcases of luxury fashion stores and admiring items that they can't afford. Luckily for some entertainment, there is always a cinema, some food courts and a stage for presenting long hair contests nearby.

Pasaulio Ilgaplaukės Kaunas 2015 / Long-Haired World 2015

The tradition of searching for Lithuania's longest hair continues in the Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas on the fourth and last day of the beauty fair: "Moters pasaulis". 71 Girls, 1 to 30 years old, and most of them with hair probably never touched by scissors, gathered together in the small amfitheater inside the arena. A contest that was mainly attended by the girls' parents, photographers, and some curious passers-by who were strolling around the fair and stopped to have a closer look. Broadly the same as last years' contest, the show consisted of measuring loose and braided hair, models showing the latest fashion on the catwalk and an award ceremony where all girls received their diploma's and compliments from the jury.

Highlights of this show were some girls having longer than knee length tresses. Three of them broke the hair record in their age category and this was officially added to the Lithuanian Book of Records. The proud contestants not only presented their abundant manes, but also showed their best outfits like sophisticated long dresses, national folk costumes or rather more casual clothing. When you take a look at the pictures in the gallery, also pay some attention to the talented catwalk models from the Lithuanian agency "Modeliai.lt" with rather short hair, but dressed in new collections of fabulous fashion clothing.
