Rapunzels Today presents a selection of drawings, paintings and photographs by the German artist and photographer Torsten Domula, whose characteristic works of art of girls with endlessly long plaits had been his trademark for many years. From 1995, he attended long hair competitions in the Ukraine, Russia and Poland as a photographer and this resulted in exhibitions in his home town of Leipzig with the work of Domula and the Russian photographer Michail Romanjuk.
This gallery shows some photos of girls with extremely long hair that were presented on his website 'ratsmaedel.de', which was launched in the early 2000s but no longer exists. Among the long-haired girls is Nina Zdrok, a woman with an incredible hair length of 192 cm, who won the 2006 competition 'Ой не ріж косу, бо хорошая' (Please don´t cut Your plaits, Bella!) in Lviv, Ukraine!
I have been painting in this style since my childhood and not only because of the competitions and my travels to Ukraine, Russia and Poland, which I have been visiting since the 1990s. The most important Rapunzel competitions for me are: Moscow 'Marya Belle - Long Braid', Poznan 'Warkocz Magdaleny' and Lviv 'Please don´t cut Your plaits, Bella!
