Warkocz Magdaleny 2014Warkocz Magdaleny is an annual festival organized at the end of July in the courtyard of a Jesuit church. It is located in the centre of Poznań, a nice tourist friendly town in the western part of Poland.

Main activities are the competition of the longest braid, the organ pipe blowing contest, brass bands and other entertainment for the whole family.

The contest "Warkocz Magdaleny", named after Maria Magdaleny who wore her hair in long braids (warkocz) is for girls and women of all ages. The most interesting part is when they get their hair done for the competition. Some of them have hair reaching down to the floor and it's getting longer every year!

UBLB2014 thumbThe 'Ural beauty - long braid' competition, or in Russian: 'Уральская краса - длинная коса' is an annual long hair show held in shopping mall Alatir, Ekaterinburg on 12 June, the Day of Russia. An excellent day to show the world that wearing long hair is still Russia's symbol of feminine beauty despite the more comfortable short hair styles.

On the upper floor of an ordinary shopping mall, with a cinema, Media Markt and food courts nearby, 44 beautiful long haired ladies came together for the final show of the fifth annual contest in Ekaterinburg: Ural Beauty - Long Braid. (For the linguists: the dash sign "-" is in Russian a substitute for "is", so actually this contest is called "The Ural Beauty is a Long Braid").

Long hair contest Ilgakasė Varena 2014

'Ilgakasė' is the title of long hair contests that are frequently held in different villages in Lithuania. This contest, organized every two years, is in Varena, a little village south of the capital Vilnius.

Ilgakasė Varėna 2014 is the eighth beauty contest and popular as it has always been. When I entered the little theater in the cultural centre of Varena, a trivial village in which I feel like being at the end of the universe, school girls with gala clothing and heavily make-up were running hysterically up and down the hall.

The aim of contest was clearly to develop the participant's creativity, self-expresson and promote traditional Lithunian values. Hair length must not be shorter than 40cm but the length was not of great importance.

Ilgaplaukės Vilnius 2014'Ilgaplaukės', that in Lithuanian means 'long haired'  is the title of long hair contests that are anually held in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The contests are organized by modelling agency Modeliai.lt and has been evolved from the Lithuanian premiere of Disney's animated movie 'Tangled' four years ago. It takes place, like many fashion shows, in a large shopping mall. Girls and women of all ages are invited to participate in this contest to measure their hair and to be rewarded with certificates and prizes.

This time, the minimum age for participants was decreased to zero, which meant that some parents showed up on stage to get the virgin hair of their babies measured. It was cute and funny how these children stared at the audience while they were probably thinking: 'what are you looking at?' I don't think that they had any clue what was going on.

Even though Lithuania belongs to the few remaining "long hair countries", it was apparently a hard job to find women with a considerable hair length to take part in this show.
